SSMS Symposium

The 14th International Symposium of SSMS 2026

Social Management Systems:
For the future Quality of Life and Well-Being associated with Asset Management Systems

Date: Oct.14-15, 2026 in Taipei

First Announcemnet is here.

Objective

Every nation inevitably transitions from a stage of economic growth and population increase to one of economic maturity and population decline, accompanied by advancing aging and the consequent erosion of fiscal capacity. In this unavoidable process, how to realize and sustainably maintain the well-being and quality of life (QOL) of citizens becomes a fundamental question that challenges the very nature of society’s relationship with its communities.

QOL signifies the realization of humanity—a state in which people live healthily, comfortably, happily, and with dignity. This QOL can be assured only through sustainability, achieved by asset management that responds to the deterioration of social infrastructure under constrained fiscal conditions, and through resilience, established by risk management that enables social infrastructure both to evolve in response to changing values and needs of society and individuals, and to withstand sudden threats such as natural disasters.

Social infrastructure must be endowed with functions capable of meeting such demands. To envision the future shape of society and to bring it into being, it is necessary to sustain and fulfill the functions required by society over the long term. This requires more than merely establishing systems for the efficient management and maintenance of infrastructure (Infrastructure Asset Management Systems). What is indispensable is the establishment of an integrated framework for governing society as a whole that supports such infrastructure—namely, Social Management Systems.
